The Laguna Greenbelt Fact:
Much of the land that make up the Laguna Greenbelt / South Coast Wilderness area was owned by large ranches that had active cattle operations. As a result much of the native trees and shrubs that normally would grow in a coastal chaparral environment were not allowed to germinate and take root because they were quickly eaten by the cattle. Today several restoration projects are trying to restore native vegetation back into the Greenbelt landscape.
